"My Precious Baby"

The Ultimate Father & Daughter Wedding Song

Written and Performed By

This Song's For You

The Origin of this Song

I originally wrote this song 20 years ago for a Catholic Nun whom I had known since childhood. Her name was Sister Imelda and the song was called Thank You For Being A Friend. Then in 1996 my partner John Swanson and I decided to launch a business venture called This Song's For You that would provide personalized wedding songs via the internet. The melody was so sweet that we wanted to include this song, so we changed the words and recorded it as My Precious Baby. I sang it to my daughter Julie at her wedding and, as you can imagine, after our guests heard this song with its lovely words, there wasn't a dry eye in the house.

About This Song's For You

This Song's For You is a coalition of professional musicians, singers and songwriters based in Western New York. This group works together, under the auspices of Tom Mayers and John Swanson, to play and record each other's compositions. This love of music and friends has resulted in the release of several CD's worth of great music that cannot be categorized into any particular style and really must be heard to be appreciated. John Swanson

Tom Mayers and John Swanson have been friends and fellow musicians for more than 30 years, starting back in the '70s when John joined Tom's band on bass. The band Rotary Bed enjoyed considerable success as an "always-booked" Top-40 group in Western New York, particularly in Lockport and Olcott, and has continued to the present day as Jonesie and The Cruisers.

Tom and John kept in contact over the years, and became co-writer/producers/performers of original music. The friendships and collaborative efforts of all the fine people that have come together over the years, have endured the test of time.

The urge to produce original music and lyrics has been a driving force for Tom and John over the years, but its the fun, camaraderie, and sense of accomplishment that make it all worthwhile.
